Clone of Konstnärsnämnden Internationellt Kulturutbyte
Kulturutbyte i Sverige

The XXIIIrd Edition of the International Composing Competition “2 Agosto” is dedicated to scores for solo accordion, and/or saxophone, and/or trombone and orchestra (maximum instrumentation allowed as per bullet point 5). Competitors could consider the possibility to use one of the solo instruments, or to combine them in pairs or using them all the three together. Sections of the work could be also realised by adding high-quality digital audio file formats (.aiff or .wav). For this purpose, competitors should take into account that the orchestra is tuned at 442 Hz. The aim of such competition is to suggest and stimulate the dialogue among different cultures, therefore participants - if they are willing to -, are invited to turn either to jazz, blues, rock or other folk styles and traditions. Competitors are requested to bear in mind that one of the main aims of the Competition is the open-air performance of the winning scores. Therefore the Jury will not take into consideration either scores unsuitable for open-air performance - even if through an appropriate amplification.
Scores must not last more than ten minutes.
The maximum instrumentation allowed is the following: Accordion, and/or saxophone (soprano or contralto or tenor), and/or trombone 2 flutes (one can be a piccolo), 2 oboes (one can be a cor anglais), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 French horns, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, timpani, 2 performers of percussions (small percussions, plates, drums, glockenspiel, xylophone, vibraphone, marimba), harp, and strings. Scores may also include the following instruments: electronic keyboards (synthesiser or samplers), electric guitar, and electric bass guitar, drums, as a rhythm section only (that is, without improvisation parts given to these instruments). As per the electronic keyboards, if any, competitors have to accurately specify the type of timber to be used.
Scores must be anonymous and must not contain any mark of identification. The scores could have been published, but in this case, competitors are asked to remove any editorial marks. However, the scores must not have been previously performed. Competitors will have to enclose a personal declaration confirming that the work has never been performed before. Applicants are suggested to enclose to their score an audio file by sending it within the MP3 format through the ONLINE procedure of our website www.concorso2agosto.it. The audio file will represent a mere support to the Jury decision, which - in any case - will be based on the score itself. For any further information or requirements, competitors may contact the Competition Secretary’s Office via e-mail at info@concorso2agosto.it.
The sending of the scores and the participation to the Competition does not require any subscription fee.
The scores must be sent according to the following ONLINE procedures: Through the website www.concorso2agosto.it, in the section SUBSCRIPTION/PARTICIPATION, competitors will have to fill in the form with their personal data for registration purposes. During this process competitors will be provided with a username and a password in order to access the system and upload their materials at a later stage. Within such section competitors will be able to find all the detailed information aimed to finalise their participation to the competition.
Deadline for the on-line application: June 18, 2017, at 12 midnight GMT.
The commission's judgment cannot be appealed against.

A national performing consortium of three prominent bands and wind ensembles will premiere the work in 2016: PRISM, ZZYZX, and the United States Air Force Academy Band's Saxophone Quartet.
The 12-15 minute work is expected to meet the highest artistic requirements for the medium. Additional specifications for the work will be negotiated among the Barlow Endowment, the composer, and the performing consortium. Half of the commission fee will be paid when the contract for the commission is signed, but no sooner than January 1, 2015, and the other half will be paid when the finished score is submitted to the Endowment.

Saari residence
Saari Residence is a manor owned and maintained by Kone Foundation as a research and production facility for researchers and artists. Saari Residence is located in the Mietoinen district of Mynämäki, an attractive thriving Western Finnish agricultural region. Close by the Manor is Mietoinen Bay, which is home to a wide variety of birdlife. The Manor is also close to preserved oak forest.
Two month residencies are intended for individual artists, translators and critics of all different disciplines and all nationalities for the purpose of carrying out a project proposal presented in advance. For each two-month residency period, diversity is emphasized: both Finnish and foreign and young and more experienced artists are chosen as well as artists representing different art forms. Another central criterion is that the artist’s work is innovative and current. The objective is that at least some residents represent new or marginal art forms. Researchers and nonfiction writers working under a Kone Foundation grant are also eligible for residency.
The Saari Residence offers artists the opportunity for peace and tranquillity, and the possibility to focus on their creative work undisturbed. The Saari Well is also an opportunity for artists and researchers working at the Manor to meet, share, and leave their mark on each other’s thoughts, work and the Saari Residence. Residents can also participate on the projects of Saari Residence’s Comminity Artist. The Comminity Artist works in the residence all year round.
Residency includes an apartment, a workspace and a monthly grant. The grant is intended for living and travel expenses as well as for other costs. Working and living at the Residence is a prerequisite for receiving the grant.

DAAD
Programme Description
The Berlin Artists-in-Residence programme, Berliner Künstlerprogramm, is one of the most renowned international programs offering grants to artists in the fields of visual arts, literature, music, film and dance/performance. Each year, some 20 grants are awarded to international artists for approximately a one-year stay in Berlin. The names of about 1,000 former guests impressively underscore the quality of the programme. In its more than forty years of existence, it has made a significant contribution to the international representation of contemporary arts in Berlin.
One aim of the Berliner Künstlerprogramm is to offer freedom of creativity. While cultural traditions are threatened by a uniform levelling out in the process of globalization, the Berlin Künstlerprogramm promotes the diversity of artistic and literary positions. The notion of dialogue is central: other nations' perspectives on conditions here - in film, visual arts, literature or music - are to be seen as a decisive incentive to self-reflection in our society.
The Berliner Künstlerprogramm sees itself as a platform for an exchange of art and culture extending beyond the boundaries of Europe. The year 1989 and the Fall of the Wall are viewed by the Berliner Künstlerprogramm as a commission to reinforce the freedom of art and the word. At the same time, the program therefore opposes the economic takeover of cultural values by liberating artistic creativity from the dictates of the market.

Arvsfonden

Kickstarter Sweden
Kickstarter is a crowdfunding site focused on creative projects in 15 broad categories – Art, Comics, Crafts, Dance, Design, Fashion, Film & Video, Food, Games, Journalism, Music, Photography, Publishing, Technology, and Theater – and have a few simple rules that outline what projects need to look like.
- The short version is that Kickstarter is a place for making things, it isn’t a site for charitable donations or financial investments.
- You need to be at least 18 years old, and you should be a permanent resident of Sweden. You have to start the project in your own name, or on behalf of a legal entity with a valid business number. And you’ll need things like a mailing address, bank account, identification, and a credit or debit card.
- Projects must create something to share with others. Kickstarter can be used to create all sorts of things: art and gadgets, events and spaces, ideas and experiences. But every project needs a plan for creating something and sharing it with the world. At some point, the creator should be able to say: “It’s finished. Here’s what we created. Enjoy!”
- Projects must be honest and clearly presented.
- Our community is built on trust and communication. Projects can’t mislead people or misrepresent facts, and creators should be candid about what they plan to accomplish. When a project involves manufacturing and distributing something complex, like a gadget, we require projects toshow a prototype of what they’re making, and we prohibit photorealistic renderings.
- Projects can’t fundraise for charity, offer financial incentives, or involve prohibited items.
- We’re all in favor of charity and investment, but they’re not permitted on Kickstarter. Projects can’t promise to donate funds raised to a charity or cause, and they can’t offer financial incentives like equity or repayment. We also can’t allow any of these prohibited things.
These rules don’t cover every possible use of Kickstarter, but they explain our purpose and perspective.

ARTErra, Portugal
The ARTErra is a project hosting and encouraging interdisciplinary artistic creation trough artistic residencies, result of a private effort open to partnerships and communication with other entities. Set in a small countryside village of Portugal, it is a place with rural aspects and extremely quiet. The enjoyment and the inclusion of the community are the main goals of this project, so we develop proposals of activities that could contribute to these objectives, in the form of promote or co-produce performances, workshops, informal presentations of ongoing projects, etc.
The artist finds in ARTERRA a house with a series of facilities, and a creation of a yard, where there are several spaces for the creation and development of an artistic work, and the possibility of introduction of the developed to the public. n this space we will seek to provide artists and projects all the conditions for the development of the creative process. This space is intended for professionals from different artistic areas, groups or independent creators, Portuguese and foreign.
You can also receive exceptional training projects for the general public and for children
Aldeburgh Residency
Groups or individuals are generally funded for their accommodation, food and travel and will be expected to allow public access to the work that's being undertaken. This will often be in the form of an informal Open Session performance, but may also be a more formal invitation to participate in an upcoming Aldeburgh Festival or concert series. Although residency budgets are not normally able to provide for artist fees, extra funds may occasionally be available if this performance is likely to attract a significant paying audience. The residency programme is always oversubscribed. It is intended for the development of specific creative projects and therefore not meant simply to provide a funded rehearsal period. Our criteria for selecting residencies are:
- It's a creative project which will really benefit from an Aldeburgh Residency. Risky is good.
- It has at least some element which is new, whether in terms of music, collaborations or processes.
- It involves musicians and artists whom we would like to experience the place, who will embrace the Aldeburgh ethos of performing, creating and sharing, and who are likely to contribute to other aspects of Aldeburgh Music's work either during the residency or in the future.

Kalvfestivalen

UNM
The festival theme of 2014 is Music Resistance. With this we want to change the discourse with the field of modern art music. We want to initiate discussions about music as changing power. We want a debate to rise about the position and relevance in society of modern art music. We want to question the inherited aesthetics of modern art music. We want to have a closer look at what makes music politic; How do a creator communicate his/her music ? How can music be criticism? What is radical music? What in common does art music have with the rest of our society?
UNM is a festival for young composers and sound artists based in the Nordic countries. Since 1946, the festival has rotated between Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden, offering composers the oppurtunity to have their works presented by professional ensembles. Each year 5 independent national juries (i.e. one in every country) choose 35 composers for the festival, through an anonymous selection process. Seven composers from each country then meet in the host city for the festival, have their pieces performed, and attend lectures / seminars with guest teachers.
UNM is a fantastic opportunity to hear new sounds and meet and create connections with Nordic colleagues.

Its exotic and remote location in the small town, by the lake, has caused a buzz within the visitors which cannot be compared to any other festival. “The spirit of Viitasaari” is a known statement spread throughout the most active countries of contemporary music.
Time of Music is also a meeting point for music professionals and students from both Finland and abroad. The festival contains not only concerts but meetings and lectures plus presentations which unite the visiting group into a tight discussive organ. In 2009 the festival hosted a seminar for promoting contemporary music. The following year Time of Music started a promotional project “Tune In” with Fimic, aimed for 2012, the 30th Anniversary of the festival. “Tune In” will bring international guests to listen, meet, discuss and plan joined efforts for future purposes.

ISCM
The World Music Days Festival is a feast of contemporary music provided by the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) – one of the most important international networks of members from around fifty countries, devoted to the promotion and presentation of contemporary music – the music of our time.
Each year the festival is hosted by one of ISCM's members. The host nation has some flexibility in determining the individual themes that drive the programming of the festival, either presenting a showcase of activity from around the world, or applying other criteria for the selection and programming of works.
The ISCM World Music Days Festival provides also an opportunity for the ISCM members to meet in their annual congress, to discuss issues affecting contemporary music and matters of mutual concern.
For the first time the World Music Days Festival was held in Salzburg in 1923, and during its long and distinguished history it was hosted by over fifty cities around the world. In recent years the festival was organized, among others, in Sydney, Zagreb, Brussels, Bruges, Ghent, Vienna, Bratislava and Kosice. In October 2014 – for the fourth time in Poland – it will take place in Wroclaw.
Although the World Music Days Festival is a festival of contemporary academic music, the main idea for its edition in 2014 is to show the most significant music phenomena that characterize new music at all.
