Krister Hansén
Composer born 1 of May 1966 in Vuollerim, Norrbotten, Sweden. Studied composition with Jan Sandström and Rolf Martinsson. Master of fine Arts in composition 2007 from Luleå University of Technology. Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from Lund University together with exams in music theory. Hansén has worked with many different musical expressions. One big commission was a magical show for kids composed for Norrbottensteatern in cooperation with Norrbottensmusiken. This musical-magical experience was initiated by Hansén and the magician PeterVarg and was first performed during 2015. Hansén wrote his first symphony during his master’s degree in 2007. Luciano, a small concert for violin and chamber ensemble, won first prize in the composition contest “Musica e Arte Composition Contest” in Rome 2008, in competition with works from all over Europe.

The trombone concerto Triple Falling written by Hansén in 2008 was performed for the first time in 2008 in Tromsö with Tromsø Chamber Orchestra and Jörgen van Rijen. Jörgen is the principal trombone player in Amsterdam’s Concertgebouew orchestra.

Among Hanséns recordings is Laterna Magica – string quartet no 1 – released 1997 in Europe, Japan and the USA with Cecilia Zilliacus and theTämmel quartet.

Hansén has a lengthy and successful collaboration with Duo Gelland, for which he has written a number of pieces. Semplice, a piece for violin duo, was released in 2020 on the CD Swedish Miniatures.

“When I write, I try to communicate with the musicians through the whole process. I also seek an actuality for the piece, not just from an aesthetical point of view, but also from other needs. This could originate by will of the contractors, as inspired by life events, or society at large.

Aesthetically, I combine naivism, or sometimes a rather minimalistic approach, with traditional musical tension-releases.This leads to forceful culminations, driven by an inner force which leads the expression forward through rhythm and harmony.”

At the moment Hansén is working on a piece for Anna Näkkäkläjärvi-Länsman, and Norrbotten Neo. Anna Näkkäkläjärvi-Länsman is a Sapmi artist who is a prominence in Joik.
