Om Olle Sundström

Olle Sundström is a Swedish composer, librettist, and poet.

He finished his bachelor degree in composition at Piteå college of music in 2014, and the subsequent masters degree at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg in 2016.

His teachers during this time were Jan Sandström, Johan Ramström, Ming Tsao, Ole Lützow-Holm, and Anders Hultqvist. He also participated in master classes with Salvatore Sciarrino, among others.

Olle’s works have been performed both domestically and abroad in Europe and South America, and he has worked with ensembles such as Norrbotten Neo, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, The Swedish Wind Ensemble, Gothenburg Wind Orchestra, and Ensemble Kasa Invisível, to name a few.

His first opera ”Elden inombords”, to which he wrote both the libretto and music, premiered in 2022 at Estrad Norr and then toured through Sweden in the fall of the same year. 

Olle’s music is genre fluid and ranges from game pieces and graphic scores to strictly notated music and fixed media installations, and not seldom a combination of two or more of these elements.

Through his work with multimedia, cross-art collaboration, and his genre fluid compositional approach, Olle has worked with both classically trained musicians and jazz musicians, as well as dancers, poets, and actors.

Olle is, beyond his musical endeavors, also a poet and spoken word performer. He won the Swedish national championship in Poetry Slam in 2023, is the reigning Nordic champion in Poetry Slam, and is ranked among the top 25 best slam poets in the world as of 2024.
