ISCM World Music Days 2017, Vancouver

2017-11-02 to 2017-11-08

From November 2-8, 2017, Canada welcomes the world as Vancouver hosts the ISCM World New Music Days 2017.

Since its founding in 1922, the International Society for Contemporary Music has been the world’s premier network for new music. Each year, its festival is hosted in a different city around the globe. In 2017, the Canadian League of Composers and Music on Main welcome more than 50 countries for a festival of new music and a celebration of new ideas, new collaborations, and new fusions.

Featuring more than 25 concerts and outreach events by some of BC’s and Canada’s best musicians, the festival will be a cohesive, relevant, and daring event, and a defining moment for contemporary music in Canada.

The ISCM’s Call for Works process will guide us in selecting new music from an international roster of composers, improvisers, and installation artists.

Concert partners will include leading new music ensembles, culturally diverse performers, improvisers, and cutting-edge genre-bending musicians. They’ll be featured prominently, reflecting Canada’s cultural diversity and distinctive artistic practices, and sharing their artistic visions and unique performances.

Led by Artistic Director David Pay in Music on Main’s trademark casual, engaging, contemporary style, the ISCM World New Music Days 2017 will provoke, connect, excite, and engage the Vancouver public, embracing a global perspective, and inspiring audiences and musicians long after November 2017.
