Composition workshop June 16-28
An intense 2-week workshop full of lectures, workshops, masterclasses, private lessons, & more. Some participating composers are local, others are from various parts of the U.S., and some are even from overseas. 8 different concerts will be presented during the two weeks. You may potentially have 2 separate works performed professionally — one main piece (submitted by April 25), and a 2nd piece that you may choose to do as a speedwriting challenge during the festival. In addition, you may also choose to perform one of your own pieces during the New Music Open Mic Night &/or be part of the music & dance improv jam sessions.
Internationally recognized special guest composers & musicians will lead daily lectures, private lessons, & workshops.
Professional performances of your music.
Audio & video concert recordings.
Composers will receive two 1-hr private lessons.
Master classes with professional musicians talking about your music & performing demonstrations.
Readings for works-in-progress by professional music artists.
“Open Mic” night in a local piano bar. Composers & musicians can perform & test out some of their latest works or new music repertoire.
Option for speed-writing a composition during the 1st week of the festival. The new piece can be a stand-alone music piece or a collaboration with a choreographer to create a piece of original music and dance (Speedwriting performances on Fri 6/27 & Sat 6/28).
Improv jams with musicians & dancers.
Attend concerts of new music throughout the 2 weeks.
Headshot photos will be taken and are included as part of the workshop.
Free transportation from/to the airport or train station (If you arrive on Sunday, June 16, between 5-8pm, and depart on Sunday, June 30 between 8-11am).
Transportation to/from the events at various locations in the Charlotte area (for out-of-town participants that did not drive).
